The Rewrite Spectrum

"Rewrite this" is one of the most common requests people make to AI, and one of the most commonly disappointing. You paste in a message that's 90% fine — you just want to fix a few rough edges — and AI hands back something that sounds like it was written by a press secretary. All personality, gone.

The problem: you didn't tell AI what kind of rewriting you wanted. There are four fundamentally different types, and using the wrong one ruins your text.
