Advanced: Analogies and Mental Models

Facts inform. Analogies transform. When someone says "DNA is like a blueprint for building a body," your brain creates a mental model that lets you reason about genetics even if you've never studied biology. You can infer things: blueprints can have errors (genetic mutations), different blueprints make different buildings (genetic variation), you can copy blueprints (DNA replication).

But every analogy breaks down eventually. DNA isn't actually a blueprint — blueprints don't replicate themselves, can't be edited by viruses, and don't change over generations. A bad analogy or an analogy pushed too far creates misconceptions.

This lesson teaches you to use AI as an analogy engine — generating multiple analogies for a concept, evaluating which ones are most accurate, and understanding their limitations.
