# Continuous Vendor Performance Monitoring
After the contract is signed and the implementation is complete, most vendor relationships enter a monitoring void. Invoices get paid, tickets get filed, but no one systematically tracks whether the vendor is delivering the value promised. When renewal arrives, the decision is based on switching cost inertia rather than performance data. AI changes this by monitoring vendor performance continuously and surfacing issues before they compound.
What to Monitor
Effective vendor monitoring covers four dimensions:
Service Delivery: Is the vendor meeting contractual SLAs? Track uptime, response times, resolution times, and quality metrics against committed levels. Do not accept vendor-reported metrics without validation — AI can cross-reference vendor uptime reports against your own monitoring data.
Financial Performance: Are costs tracking to contract? Watch for scope creep (gradually expanding usage that increases costs), unplanned charges, and pricing model misalignment (per-seat pricing when usage is a better metric).
