SWOT Analysis and Competitive Mapping

The Problem with Most SWOT Analyses

Most SWOTs are wish lists disguised as analysis. Strengths are aspirational rather than validated. Weaknesses are sanitized. Opportunities are vague. Threats are generic. The result sits in a PowerPoint and informs nothing. AI can enforce rigor and specificity — but only if you provide honest, specific inputs.

The SWOT-to-Strategy Bridge Template

PROMPT TEMPLATE: Rigorous SWOT Analysis

I am conducting a SWOT analysis for [company/business unit]
in [industry].

COMPANY CONTEXT:
- Annual revenue: $[range]
- Market position: [leader / challenger / niche / startup]
- Key products/services: [list]
- Geographic scope: [where they operate]
- Recent performance: [growing / stable / declining — key metrics]
- Strategic priorities stated: [what leadership says they want]

IMPORTANT: For each SWOT element, I need SPECIFIC and EVIDENCE-
BASED entries, not generic statements.

Bad example: "Strong brand" (vague)
Good example: "Brand recognition is 73% in target demographic
(per 2024 survey), 15 points above nearest competitor"

═══ STRENGTHS (Internal, Positive) ═══
Analyze these dimensions:
- Market position and brand strength (specific metrics)
- Financial resources and performance
- Technology and IP advantages
- Talent and organizational capabilities
- Customer relationships and loyalty (retention rates)
- Operational efficiency (cost position vs. competitors)
- Distribution and channel advantages
- Data and analytics capabilities
