Quality Inspection & Non-Conformance

10 min

What you will learn

  • Use AI to create inspection plans and checklists aligned with quality standards
  • Draft non-conformance reports with thorough root cause analysis documentation
  • Build corrective and preventive action (CAPA) plans using structured AI prompts
  • Create supplier quality communication templates for non-conforming materials

# Quality Inspection & Non-Conformance

When something goes wrong in manufacturing, the documentation determines whether you fix the root cause or just patch the symptom.

Inspection Plan Development

Create an incoming material inspection plan for:

Material: 304 stainless steel sheet, 0.060" thickness
Supplier: [Supplier name]
Specification: ASTM A240, customer spec requiring 2B finish
Lot size: Typically 20 sheets per delivery
Usage: Laser cutting for medical device enclosures (FDA regulated)

Inspection plan should include:
1. RECEIVING INSPECTION CHECKLIST
   - Visual inspection criteria (surface finish, damage, contamination)
   - Dimensional verification (thickness, flatness, size)
   - Material certification review (heat number, chemistry, mechanical properties)
   - Documentation verification (COC, MTR, any customer-required certs)

2. SAMPLING PLAN
   - Sample size per lot (reference ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 if applicable)
   - AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) for each characteristic
   - Accept/reject criteria
