AI systems reflect the data they were trained on, and that data reflects every historical bias in media: who gets covered, how communities are described, whose expertise is valued, and whose stories are told. Using AI without understanding this dynamic risks automating and amplifying the very biases journalism should challenge.

Identifying AI Bias in Media Applications

Bias shows up in specific, identifiable ways:

Audit this application for bias:
1. REPRESENTATION BIAS: Does the AI disproportionately suggest/select certain demographics, communities, or perspectives?
2. FRAMING BIAS: Does the AI default to particular narrative frames about certain groups?
3. SOURCE BIAS: Does the AI recommend certain types of experts (institutional, male, Western) over others?
4. LANGUAGE BIAS: Does the AI use different language when describing different communities?
5. OMISSION BIAS: What stories, perspectives, or communities does the AI consistently overlook?

For each identified bias, explain:
- Why the AI likely has this bias (training data, optimization target)
- How it could affect the journalism if undetected
- Specific mitigation strategies
