Specification Writing and Conflict Detection with AI
What you'll learn
- 1Use AI to draft project specifications based on drawing content and design intent
- 2Detect conflicts between specifications, drawings, and schedules using AI analysis
- 3Maintain specification consistency across multiple CSI sections
Specification writing is one of architecture's most detail-oriented tasks. A typical project specification spans dozens of CSI sections, each containing product requirements, execution standards, and quality assurance provisions that must align precisely with the drawings. AI can help both in drafting specifications and, critically, in detecting conflicts.
AI-Assisted Specification Drafting
Rather than starting from a master specification and editing down, you can describe your project conditions and let AI generate a first draft:
"Draft CSI Section 07 92 00 - Joint Sealants for a 4-story office building in Climate Zone 4A. Exterior joints include: curtain wall perimeter, precast panel joints, window perimeter, and roof-to-wall transitions. Interior joints include: fire-rated partition heads, floor transitions at wet areas, and acoustical partition perimeters. Specify sealant types appropriate for each joint condition with movement capability, adhesion requirements, and compatibility notes."
