Clash Detection & Cross-Trade Coordination
What you'll learn
- 1Use AI to identify potential conflicts between different trade plans
- 2Build prompts that compare structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing layouts
- 3Create RFI drafts when AI identifies ambiguities or conflicts in plans
- 4Establish a pre-construction AI review checklist for your trade
# Clash Detection & Cross-Trade Coordination
The most expensive mistakes in construction happen when different trades conflict with each other: a beam running through where the ductwork needs to go, a pipe chase that is too small for the plumbing plus the electrical, or a dropped ceiling that does not leave enough room for both sprinkler heads and recessed lights. These clashes are often caught during installation — the most expensive time to find them.
Why AI Helps with Clash Detection
Traditional clash detection requires expensive BIM software and a coordinator who knows all the trades. AI offers a more accessible alternative: upload plan sheets from multiple disciplines and ask the AI to find conflicts.
AI excels at this because it can: - Hold multiple plans in context and compare them simultaneously - Apply trade knowledge about clearance requirements, code minimums, and standard practices - Identify spatial conflicts where elements from different trades occupy the same space - Flag ambiguities where plans are unclear about which trade has priority
